Haryana, December 9:
There is a fierce battle within the BJP over the vacant Rajya Sabha seat from Haryana. This seat became vacant after Rural Development and Panchayat Minister Krishna Lal Pawar contested the Israna Assembly seat. With his resignation, the seat is up for grabs, and today it will be decided who the party trusts for this position. All eyes are on the BJP central office, where the candidate’s name is expected to be announced by evening. The vacancy arose after Krishna Lal Pawar’s resignation from his position. With nearly four years remaining in the current Rajya Sabha term, several senior leaders and young faces from the BJP are believed to be contenders. Since the BJP has sufficient numbers, it is almost certain that the chosen candidate will sail through to the Rajya Sabha without any opposition.
Last Date for Nominations Approaching
Nominations for the Haryana Rajya Sabha elections began on December 3 and the last date for filing nominations is December 10. The scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on December 11, and nominations can be withdrawn until December 13. If necessary, voting will occur on December 20, with the counting of votes on the same day. The results are expected to be declared by December 24. As the deadline for nominations approaches, it is believed that the BJP will announce the candidate by evening today. After the candidate’s name is finalized, the nomination will be filed the next day.
Who Could Be the Candidate?
According to insider discussions within the BJP, the following names are being considered for the vacant seat: Haryana BJP President Mohan Lal Badoli, former MP Sanjay Bhatia, former Minister Dr. Banwari Lal, former MP Sunita Duggal, and Kuldeep Bishnoi.
If we talk about Haryana BJP President Mohan Lal Badoli, the party’s top leadership is quite pleased with his work. Under Badoli’s leadership, the BJP performed well in the Assembly elections. Additionally, the BJP is satisfied with the results of its membership drive in Haryana, and Badoli has received much praise from the party’s high command.
Former MP Sanjay Bhatia is another strong contender. He is considered close to Union Minister Manohar Lal and had previously given up his seat in the Lok Sabha elections for Manohar Lal. He also has strong ties with the RSS.
Dr. Banwari Lal, a former minister, is also being considered due to his status as a Dalit leader, similar to Krishna Pawar, as the party may want to field a Dalit candidate to replace him. Dr. Banwari Lal is known for his clean image and was close to Manohar Lal, though he was denied a ticket in the Assembly elections.
Former MP Sunita Duggal’s name is also in the running, as she was denied a ticket in the Lok Sabha elections but was given a ticket for the Assembly elections, where she lost.
Kuldeep Bishnoi, the younger son of former Chief Minister Bhajan Lal, is another name being discussed for this election.
The BJP will likely choose a candidate who can prove useful to the party in upcoming elections. It is expected that the party will select a leader who will strengthen the BJP’s agenda in Haryana.
Impact on Political Dynamics
This seat is not just about increasing BJP’s representation in the Rajya Sabha; it is also an effort to strengthen the party’s organizational presence in Haryana. The leader chosen for this position will likely play a crucial role in strengthening the BJP’s position in Haryana’s political landscape.
