New Delhi, January 24:
Reports suggest that former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag and his wife, Aarti Ahlawat, are on the verge of ending their 20-year marriage. The couple, who have been living separately for several months, is expected to file for divorce soon.
The first signs of a growing rift between Sehwag and Aarti emerged when their public appearances and social media activity began to dwindle. While Sehwag has often shared moments with his family online, including pictures of his older son Aryaveer and mother Krishna during last year’s Diwali, there was a noticeable absence of Aarti and their younger son, Vedant, in these posts. This fueled rumors of a potential separation.
Adding to the speculation, Sehwag unfollowed Aarti on Instagram, and Aarti made her profile private shortly after the divorce rumors gained momentum. Despite these changes, Sehwag has not deleted any pictures with Aarti, though the last one posted was in April 2023. Notably, Sehwag did not share a public post on their 20th wedding anniversary in April 2024, further raising questions about their relationship.
Sehwag and Aarti’s journey together began in the 1980s when they met through family ties. Sehwag’s cousin married Aarti’s aunt, and from a young age, Sehwag and Aarti developed a strong bond. As they grew older, Sehwag’s feelings for Aarti deepened, and at the age of 21, he proposed to her, marking the beginning of their romantic relationship. They married on April 22, 2004, in a lavish ceremony at the home of former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.
Aarti, born on December 16, 1980, in New Delhi, maintained a relatively private life. She completed her education at Lady Irwin Secondary School and Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, later earning a diploma in Computer Science from Maitreyi College, Delhi University. Throughout Sehwag’s cricket career, she remained a quiet yet supportive presence by his side.
Since retiring from international cricket in 2015, Sehwag has stayed active in various roles, including working with the National Anti-Doping Agency. While the couple’s bond once appeared strong, recent signs point to growing distance between them. However, neither Sehwag nor Aarti has publicly confirmed the separation, leaving their personal lives subject to ongoing speculation.
