Former military officers have expressed serious concerns about declining respect for military ranks, titles, and protocol due to policies like One Rank One Pension (OROP), Agniveer, and Short Service Commission. They highlighted how these issues are discouraging youth from joining the armed forces and criticized political tactics undermining the military’s dignity.
Key Demands:
- Halt the degradation of military ranks.
- Implement universal OROP.
- Establish a three-tier system.
- Fix Short Service Commission tenure.
- Create a separate Pay Commission for armed forces.
- Enact an Ex-Servicemen Welfare Act.
Chandigarh: In a seminar held at the Chandigarh Press Club, 60 former military officers from North India united to voice their concerns. They criticized political strategies that erode the military’s reputation and urged for immediate reforms. Seminar conclusions were shared via live tweets with the Prime Minister, Defense Minister, and President.
Prominent speakers included Colonel TBS Bedi, Flight Lieutenant Renu Lamba, Lieutenant Colonel GPS Virk, Colonel Sachdeva, and Captain Ramesh Bhardwaj.
