Washington, February 11:
Amid intensified immigration enforcement under his administration, US President Donald Trump has reportedly ruled out the possibility of deporting Prince Harry, despite ongoing legal scrutiny over the Duke of Sussex’s visa status.
During an interview with The New York Post, Trump made it clear that he has no intention of taking action against the British royal, who relocated to California with his wife, Meghan Markle, after stepping down from official royal duties in 2020.
The controversy surrounding Prince Harry’s visa stems from legal challenges led by the Heritage Foundation, which has questioned whether he properly disclosed past drug use when applying for residency in the US. The think tank cites admissions from his memoir Spare, where he openly discussed using substances like cocaine, cannabis, and psychedelics.
Adding another layer to the debate, some conservatives have suggested that the Biden administration may have granted Harry special treatment, given his high-profile status. Nile Gardiner of the Heritage Foundation emphasized concerns over transparency in the visa process, stating, “Anyone applying to the US must be truthful on their application, and it’s unclear whether that’s the case with Prince Harry.”
While Trump has had a strained relationship with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex—often criticizing Harry for being influenced by Meghan—he has expressed a different sentiment about Prince William. The former president has previously met with the future king and described him as “a great young man,” a stark contrast to his views on Harry and Meghan.
As the legal battle over Harry’s immigration status continues, the debate over whether the British prince received preferential treatment in the US remains a hot topic. However, for now, Trump has made it clear that he has no plans to intervene.
