Prayagraj, February 15:
A devastating road accident in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj district claimed the lives of 10 devotees, while 19 others sustained injuries. The injured are currently receiving treatment at a hospital. Initial investigations suggest that the accident occurred due to the driver falling asleep at the wheel.
The tragic incident took place around 2 AM on Friday when a Bolero carrying devotees collided head-on with a bus. The impact was so severe that the Bolero was completely crushed, and all its passengers died on the spot.
Bolero Loses Control, Crashes into Bus
According to reports, the Bolero was transporting devotees from Korba district in Chhattisgarh to Prayagraj for the Maha Kumbh. As it reached the Mirzapur-Prayagraj Highway near Manu Ka Pura village in the Meja police station area, it lost control and crashed into an oncoming bus.
Following the accident, police arrived at the scene and used a JCB machine to extract the bodies trapped inside the wrecked Bolero. The deceased were later sent for post-mortem examination.
Identities of the Deceased Confirmed
All 10 passengers in the Bolero were from Korba district in Chhattisgarh. The victims have been identified as Ishwari Prasad Jaiswal, Santosh Soni, Bhagirathi Jaiswal, Somnath, Ajay Banjare, Saurabh Kumar Soni, Ganga Das Verma, Shiva Rajput, Deepak Verma, and Raju Sahu.
The accident caused chaos on the highway, with people screaming in panic. The bus involved in the collision was carrying devotees from Rajgarh district in Madhya Pradesh, who were returning from the Maha Kumbh after taking a holy dip.
19 Devotees Injured in the Accident
According to officials, 19 devotees traveling in the bus sustained injuries. They have been admitted to the Community Health Center (CHC) in Ramnagar for medical treatment.
Driver Fell Asleep, Leading to the Tragedy
Preliminary investigations indicate that the accident happened because the Bolero driver dozed off while driving. The high-speed collision resulted in the total destruction of the Bolero, killing all passengers instantly.
A survivor from the bus recounted that most passengers were asleep at the time of the accident when they were suddenly jolted by a massive impact. He, who was awake and seated in the bus cabin, saw the Bolero speeding towards them before the collision.
Police identified the deceased using their Aadhaar cards and mobile numbers and have informed their families. The relatives of the victims have left Chhattisgarh for Prayagraj. All the deceased were en route to the Maha Kumbh for a sacred bath.
