Supreme Court Lifts Stay on Trial Against Dera Chief Ram Rahim in 2015 Sacrilege Cases

Sharing is caring!

Chandigarh, Oct 17
The Supreme Court on Friday lifted the stay imposed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court on proceedings against jailed Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in three sacrilege cases from 2015 in Punjab’s Faridkot district. The sacrilege incidents involve the desecration of the Sikh holy scripture, Guru Granth Sahib.

A bench of Justices BR Gavai and KV Vishwanathan issued notice to Ram Rahim on the Punjab government’s appeal to resume the trial. Ram Rahim, who is serving a 20-year sentence for rape and murder, had earlier sought a CBI investigation into the cases, leading to the High Court’s stay, which is now revoked.
