Punjab, December 5:
Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Badal is serving at Takht Sri Keshgarh Sahib from today. Sukhbir has been sentenced to a religious punishment by Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
On Wednesday, during his service at Sri Harmandir Sahib, there was an attempted terrorist attack on Sukhbir. In light of this, security in Sri Anandpur Sahib has been heightened. Around 400 police personnel and SGPC’s task force have been deployed. Sukhbir started his service at 9 AM today.
Previously, Sukhbir Badal had served for two days at Sri Harmandir Sahib. On the second day of his service, he was shot at, but the police swiftly arrested the accused, Narayan Singh Chauda. Narayan Chauda was a terrorist associated with Babbar Khalsa International. He went to Pakistan in 1984 and helped in the smuggling of arms and explosives during the early phase of terrorism in Punjab. While in Pakistan, he allegedly wrote a book on guerrilla warfare and seditious literature. He is also an accused in the Burail jailbreak case. Narayan had previously served time in a Punjab jail.
After the attack on Sukhbir Badal, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann stated, “The alertness of Punjab Police is the reason the conspiracy to defame Punjab and Punjabis has failed. The police’s vigilance led to the immediate arrest of the attacker, and this is a big success. I appreciate the police’s efforts. I strongly condemn the attack on Sukhbir Badal. I have instructed the police to conduct a swift investigation and submit a report.”
