Haryana, December 20:
The Supreme Court today held a hearing on the health and ongoing hunger strike of farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who has been on a hunger strike for the past 25 days at the Khanauri border between Haryana and Punjab. During the hearing, the Punjab government submitted a health update report on Dallewal.
The Court directed that Dallewal be shifted to a temporary hospital set up near the protest site. Government counsel stated that all medical tests for Dallewal have been conducted and found normal, adding that his health remains stable. The shifting process will be carried out in coordination with government directives and with the consent of the farmers.
Jagjit Singh Dallewal, the state president of the Bhartiya Kisan Union (Sidhupur) and a key leader of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (Non-Political), hails from Dallewal village in Faridkot district. Despite battling cancer, the 70-year-old has emerged as a prominent leader in the farmers’ movement.
