A day after Akal Takht’s directives, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) rejected the resignation of Takht Damdama Sahib Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh. This decision followed Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh’s warning that all Takht Jathedars would resign if the SGPC accepted Harpreet Singh’s resignation.
The resignation came after Giani Harpreet Singh accused Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) members of harassment and caste-based insults on social media, allegedly at the behest of SAD leader Virsa Singh Valtoha. Valtoha has since resigned from the SAD, with the Akal Takht banning him from party activities for 10 years.
SAD leaders later apologized to the Jathedars for any offensive remarks made by party members, affirming their commitment to Akal Takht principles.
