Punjab, March 3:
People in Punjab aspiring to build their own homes under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana 2.0 have received good news. After three years, the central government has reopened the scheme’s portal, leading to a surge in applications across the state.
Within just a week of the portal reopening, over 11,000 applications have been submitted. On average, more than 1,500 people are applying daily. In response, the state government has increased the housing construction target from 2.5 lakh to 3 lakh. Additionally, the state subsidy has been raised from ₹75,000 to ₹1 lakh.
Under this scheme, eligible beneficiaries receive financial assistance to build a two-room house with a kitchen and bathroom. The central government will continue to provide ₹1.5 lakh, while the state government has increased its contribution from ₹25,000 to ₹1 lakh.
Moreover, under the Affordable Housing Partnership (AHP), the state government will also provide a ₹1 lakh subsidy. Housing units will be constructed by public and private entities, ensuring financial assistance for Economically Weaker Section (EWS) beneficiaries. The central government will continue to offer ₹1.5 lakh for this category as well.
