Pakistan, December 13:
A Pakistani court has filed new charges against former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, in a case involving the alleged illegal sale of state gifts, as reported by Geo News on Thursday.
This case is among several legal battles faced by the 72-year-old ex-cricket star, who has been in custody since late last year. Known as the Toshakhana case, it accuses Khan and Bushra Bibi of unlawfully acquiring and selling state gifts valued at over 140 million rupees (approximately $501,000) during Khan’s tenure as prime minister from 2018 to 2022. Both have denied any wrongdoing.
Earlier this year, just days before a general election, Khan and Bushra Bibi were convicted and sentenced to 14 years in prison on related charges. This came after Khan had already received a three-year sentence in late 2023 for a separate but related matter. However, both sentences were subsequently suspended during appeals in higher courts.
The allegations involve luxury items such as diamond jewellery and high-end watches, including seven Rolex watches, one of which is valued at 85 million rupees, making it the most expensive item in the case.
