New Delhi, January 3:
Delhi’s airport saw significant disruptions on Friday morning, with more than 100 flights delayed due to thick fog and poor visibility.
The dense fog over the national capital led to low visibility, affecting flight operations. While no flights were diverted, the delays have impacted travel schedules. Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) reported that the delays primarily affect non-CAT III compliant flights, which are less equipped for operations under low visibility conditions. Passengers were advised to check with their airlines for the latest updates on their flights. DIAL expressed regret for any inconvenience caused.
CAT III facilities allow aircraft to land and take off under low-visibility conditions. The Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) handles around 1,300 flights daily, but operations have been hindered due to the weather.
Airlines have urged passengers to monitor flight status, warning that cancellations might occur if the poor visibility persists.
Train services have also been affected, with several trains running late or operating on adjusted schedules. A total of 24 trains departing from Delhi were delayed, including the Ayodhya Express, which was delayed by four hours, the Gorakhdham Express, delayed by over two hours, and the Bihar Kranti Express and Shram Shakti Express, both delayed by over three hours.
