Chandigarh, December 12:
The Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR) has issued a directive to singer Diljit Dosanjh and the organisers of his upcoming concert in Chandigarh on December 14. The advisory explicitly prohibits performing songs that promote alcohol, drug use, or violence, citing specific tracks like Patiala Pegg, 5 Tara Theke, and Case. This restriction also extends to any modified or alternate versions of these songs.
The CCPCR, chaired by Shipra Bansal, acted on a petition filed by Panditrao Dharenavar, a Sociology professor in Chandigarh. The advisory emphasizes the adverse impact such songs can have on children, who are at a vulnerable and impressionable age.
Additionally, the panel has instructed the organisers to avoid inviting children onto the stage during performances where sound levels exceed 120 decibels, as this is considered harmful to children’s hearing. Furthermore, the advisory warns against serving alcohol to individuals under 25, citing potential violations of the Juvenile Justice Act and other legal provisions.
A similar complaint against Dosanjh was raised in Telangana in November 2024, where the District Child Welfare Officer issued a notice regarding the influence of such songs. In that instance, Dosanjh reportedly avoided bringing children on stage and altered the lyrics of certain songs.
Panditrao Dharenavar expressed optimism that Dosanjh would comply with the advisory, prioritizing children’s well-being. Dharenavar has previously raised concerns about other artists, including Karan Aujla, who refrained from performing certain songs during a concert on December 7, 2024, following similar objections.
