A massive fire broke out in the vegetable market in Moga on Diwali night due to a short circuit around 9 p.m. on Friday. The fire engulfed 6-7 shops, including three large clothing stores and a plastic goods store, reducing them to ashes.
Fire brigade personnel faced significant challenges in controlling the flames, with 12 fire engines arriving from different locations in Moga to bring the fire under control in about an hour and a half.
One clothing store owner shared that he had closed his shop at 7 p.m. and returned home, only to receive a call at 9 p.m. informing him of the fire. He had recently purchased the shop for 1.5 million INR and stocked it with clothes worth 1.2 million INR, all of which were destroyed in the fire.
Moga Mayor Baljit Singh Channi confirmed that approximately 6-7 shops were completely burned down. The fire was brought under control by 12 fire engines in about an hour and a half. Initial estimates suggest a loss of around 10 million INR, with the full extent of the damage yet to be determined.
