Mansa(Punjab), December 5:
A major clash occurred in Mansa, Punjab, between farmers and the police, resulting in several injuries. Police had to use a lathi charge to disperse the protesting farmers, who retaliated by pelting stones. In the violent altercation, three station heads and several police officers were injured. The SHO of Bhiaki suffered serious injuries, with both of his arms broken. Reports also suggest that some farmers were wounded in the incident. All the injured individuals were admitted to the hospital for treatment.
The incident took place in Lelewala village, where tensions between the farmers and the police escalated. The farmers were marching from Mansa to Lelewala, protesting against the Gujarat gas pipeline project. The farmers have been expressing their opposition to the government over this issue. The police stated that the lathi charge was necessary after the farmers became agitated. The situation worsened when the police tried to stop the farmers, leading to further confrontations.
The farmers, on their way from Talwandi Sabo to Mansa via Sangrur, were met with resistance from the police, who attempted to disperse them using force. This led to several farmers sustaining injuries as well.
Currently, the area is calm, with police maintaining a strong presence. Authorities confirmed that all the injured are receiving medical care, and their condition is said to be stable.
Farmers have been protesting over various demands, and there are reports of another farmer march heading towards Delhi from Punjab’s borders tomorrow. Congress’s National President of the Farmers’ Front, Bajrang Punia, has accused the Haryana government of obstructing the farmers’ movement, preventing them from traveling to Delhi.
