The year 2025 is set to bring transformative changes and significant developments to Haryana. From administrative reforms to infrastructure expansion, several new initiatives aim to steer the state in a progressive direction. Here’s a look at the top 10 changes expected in Haryana this year.
1. New Faces in the Government
Chief Minister Nayab Saini has announced plans to revamp his team in 2025. Leaders who contributed to the party’s success in the elections will be appointed to key positions in various boards and corporations. Discussions on this matter are already complete, and an official announcement is expected by the end of January.
2. Municipal Elections
Municipal elections are slated to take place in January-February 2025. Elections will be conducted in 8 municipal corporations, with certain seats reserved. For instance, the mayoral position in Rohtak is reserved for Scheduled Castes, while in Gurugram, it is reserved for candidates from the BC (A) category.
3. New Executive Committee for Haryana Congress
After operating without an organizational structure for nearly a decade, Haryana Congress is expected to get a new executive committee in 2025. Ongoing factionalism within the party had delayed the process, but the central leadership is now poised to finalize the structure soon.
4. Implementation of the New Education Policy
Haryana will roll out the New Education Policy (NEP) in February 2025. According to the Education Minister, the policy focuses on improving education quality and increasing the number of schools, offering students enhanced learning opportunities.
5. CET Exam Scheduled for February
The government has planned to conduct the Common Eligibility Test (CET) in February 2025. The revised system will feature a one-time registration process, eliminating the need for students to reapply multiple times.
6. Increase in Property Prices
The Haryana government has decided to increase the External Development Charge (EDC) by 20%. An additional annual increase of 10% will follow. This move is likely to make properties more expensive, especially in areas like Gurugram.
7. Haryana’s First Airport
The Maharaja Agrasen Airport in Hisar is set to become operational by August 2025. The airport will connect Hisar to cities like Chandigarh, Ayodhya, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, and Jammu. Most of the construction work has already been completed.
8. Financial Benefits for Employees
The state government has increased the gratuity limit for employees to ₹25 lakh, effective January 1, 2025. This decision is expected to provide substantial financial benefits to government employees.
9. Earthquake Preparedness
Thirteen districts in Haryana have been identified as high-risk zones for earthquakes. These include Gurugram, Faridabad, and Sonipat. Mild tremors are anticipated in the first week of January, prompting precautionary measures.
10. Selection of Leader of the Opposition
The Leader of the Opposition position in the Haryana Assembly has been vacant for an extended period due to factional disputes within the Congress party. The central leadership has indicated that a decision on this matter will be taken soon.
