Khannauri Border, February 12:
A massive Kisan Mahapanchayat was organized today at the Khannauri border to mark the first anniversary of the ongoing farmer protest. Thousands of farmers and leaders from various organizations gathered for the event. However, soon after the Mahapanchayat began, senior farmer leader Baldev Sirsa suffered a heart attack and was immediately rushed to a hospital in Chandigarh for treatment.
Farmers from different regions continue to arrive at the Khannauri border to participate in the event. The Mahapanchayat commenced with a traditional Ardaas (prayer), attended by prominent farmer leaders. The primary agenda remains to raise demands, particularly in support of Jagjit Singh Dallewal and the ongoing struggle for farmers’ rights.
Farmers Stand Firm on MSP and Other Demands
Farmer leaders emphasized that if they do not fight for their rights now, the future of agriculture in India could be at risk. Their key demand is the legal guarantee of Minimum Support Price (MSP), along with other issues that remain unresolved. A crucial meeting with the central government is scheduled for February 14, for which farmers and their representatives have already devised a detailed strategy.
Farmers from Narnaunda Road and various other regions continue to reach the protest site in large numbers, marching in solidarity. Leaders from Ratnpura Morcha, including Inderjit Singh Panniwal, Sandeep Singh, Sukhjeet Singh Hardojhande, and Manpreet Singh, were also present at the gathering.
High Security at Protest Site
To maintain law and order, the administration has deployed heavy security at the Khannauri border. Twelve companies of paramilitary forces and multiple police units have been stationed to ensure peace during the event.
Despite the ongoing discussions between the government and farmer organizations, the protestors remain steadfast in their demands. Until their issues, particularly MSP assurance, are addressed, the farmers’ movement will continue.
