United States, December 23:
Indian-American entrepreneur and technology expert Sriram Krishnan has been appointed as the Senior Policy Advisor on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. The announcement by President-elect Donald Trump marks a significant step in shaping the United States’ AI policies.
Krishnan, a veteran of the tech world with leadership roles at Microsoft, Twitter, Facebook, and Snap, will collaborate with David O. Sacks, the White House’s newly designated AI and Crypto Czar, to ensure America maintains its leadership in AI. The two will work closely with the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology to foster a cohesive strategy for AI development and innovation across government agencies.
Krishnan’s Tech Legacy
Krishnan began his tech career in 2005 at Microsoft, where he played a pivotal role in developing Windows Azure, Microsoft’s cloud platform. Over the years, he led product teams at various tech giants, contributing to innovations that shaped modern technology. Until recently, he served as a general partner at Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), leaving the firm in November 2023 after heading its London office.
He is also well-known for his podcast, “The Aarthi and Sriram Show,” which he co-hosts with his wife, Aarthi Ramamurthy, delving into tech, culture, and innovation.
Collaborative Leadership and AI Vision
Krishnan’s role will involve shaping AI policies and working on government-wide coordination of AI initiatives. Speaking about his appointment, Krishnan said, “I’m honored to serve our country and ensure continued American leadership in AI, working closely with David Sacks.”
David Sacks echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the need for unified AI policies to maintain America’s competitive edge.
Indian-Americans in Trump’s Team
Krishnan’s appointment is one of several Indian-American inclusions in Trump’s team. Renowned scientist Jay Bhattacharya has been named Director of the National Institutes of Health, while Kash Patel will serve as FBI Director, marking a historic milestone for Indian-Americans in federal leadership.
Sanjeev Joshipura, executive director of Indiaspora, lauded Krishnan’s selection, highlighting his vast experience in technology and policy as instrumental for this critical role.
