Ghumarwin, February 5:
In a rare medical case, doctors at a private hospital in Ghumarwin, Himachal Pradesh, performed surgery to remove 33 coins from the stomach of a 33-year-old man. The total weight of these coins was 247 grams, and their combined value was ₹300. The patient was admitted to the hospital on January 31 with severe stomach pain.
Initially, doctors were unable to determine the exact cause of the pain. After conducting an endoscopy, they discovered multiple coins lodged in his stomach. A surgical team, led by Dr. Ankush, decided to proceed with an operation. The surgery lasted for about three hours, during which 33 coins of ₹2, ₹10, and ₹20 denominations were successfully removed.
Patient Diagnosed with Mental Disorder
According to Dr. Ankush, the case was complex as the coins were spread across different parts of the stomach. The team used CR technology to locate the coins before performing the surgery.
Doctors revealed that the patient suffers from schizophrenia, a mental disorder that affects a person’s ability to distinguish reality. Individuals with this condition often exhibit abnormal behavior due to delusions or hallucinations. It is believed that this condition led the patient to swallow the coins.
Currently, the patient is in stable condition and remains under medical supervision for further treatment.
