Himachal Pradesh, December 27:
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed deep grief over the demise of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, calling him a visionary whose contributions have left an indelible mark on India’s progress.
In his message, Sukhu highlighted Singh’s pivotal role in transforming India’s economic landscape and advancing social development. “Manmohan Singh’s leadership and policies propelled India onto the global stage. His loss is a monumental setback for the nation,” Sukhu remarked.
As a tribute, the Himachal Pradesh government declared a state-wide closure of offices and educational institutions on December 27 and 28. The ongoing winter carnival in Shimla has been rescheduled to January 1 as a mark of respect.
Sukhu lauded Singh’s key achievements, including economic liberalisation, which attracted foreign investment and catalysed growth. He also praised the implementation of landmark reforms like the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) and the Right to Information Act, which significantly impacted rural employment and governance transparency.
The Chief Minister concluded that Manmohan Singh’s legacy would endure as a beacon of exceptional leadership and vision in Indian politics.
