Punjab and Haryana High Court has slammed the Punjab government for not taking any action against the SSP and SP of Mohali in the case of interview of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi in the custody of Punjab Police. The High Court said that Lawrence’s detention was only in name, in reality he was getting facilities like state guest in Punjab.
High Court asked- what action was taken against the officers
As soon as the hearing began on Monday, the High Court asked what action had been taken against the guilty police officers. It was told that action has been taken against everyone from DSP to constable. On the question of no action being taken against the then SSP and SP of Mohali, the AG said that the SSP was unaware of this. On this, the High Court has ordered the government to take appropriate action against the SSP and SP after seeing the SIT report. If this does not happen then the High Court will issue orders.
The court said that it is necessary to find out why Lawrence was being brought to Punjab again and again in those days and what the reason behind his interview was. The High Court has also ordered the SIT to investigate this. The High Court said that if the High Court has doubts about the investigation of this case, then the investigation will be handed over to an independent agency.
Answer sought from DGP also
During the hearing, the High Court said that the DGP had said that the interview was not held in Punjab, now he should file this affidavit explaining on what basis he had said this. Also explain why the SIT he formed had failed to complete the investigation regarding Lawrence’s interview.
Let us tell you that Lawrence Bishnoi had given an interview to a private TV channel from police custody. When the SIT formed on the orders of the High Court investigated the matter, it was found that the interview was from Punjab. Now the High Court has said about taking action against the officials in this matter.
Lawrence Bishnoi’s name is in discussion after the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddiqui in Mumbai. At present he is lodged in Sabarmati jail of Gujarat.
