Chandigarh, Nov 6
In Haryana, no Roadways bus will now be allowed to stop at private restaurants. Any vehicle spotted on the road without a registration number will be seized. Transport Minister Anil Vij has instructed all Roadways general managers to ensure the provision of fans, lights, drinking water, and clean restrooms at bus stands, with regular inspections to be conducted.
Loss Due to Drivers’ Self-Interest
At a meeting with officials in Chandigarh on Tuesday, Vij emphasized that Roadways buses should only stop at eateries authorized by the Haryana government or the tourism department. Addressing the media, Vij poetically warned officials, saying, “Ibtda-e-ishq hai rohta hai kya, aage-aage dekhiye hota hai kya” (“This is just the beginning; let’s see what happens next”).
Vij noted that drivers often stop at private hotels and restaurants for personal gain, causing losses to both the government and passengers. From now on, no bus will stop at private eateries. Officials have been directed to seize vehicles without license plates in a state-wide campaign and inspect private buses operating without permits or on unauthorized routes.
Digital App for Bus Timetable
To improve passenger convenience, a digital app for bus timetables will be developed. The transport department has also requested inspection and sampling of food items sold at bus stand shops. Additionally, officials have been directed to explore the possibility of offering food on buses, similar to IRCTC services.
Officials were also asked to identify accident-prone black spots on state roads and submit a report. Modern equipment will be purchased for bus fitness checks.
Promotions and Health Camps for Employees
Anil Vij assured that officials have been directed to ensure timely payment of salaries and allowances to employees. Pending promotions will be processed quickly. Regular health check-up camps will also be organized at transport depots for drivers and conductors.
