Haryana, December 30:
The Haryana government has amended the Common Eligibility Test (CET) policy, removing the provision of 5% bonus marks for candidates under socioeconomic criteria. The decision was approved by the Haryana Cabinet on Saturday during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, following a May 31 order from the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Haryana CET Amendments
The updated CET policy will now be referred to as the Policy for Recruitment to Group C and D Posts through the Common Eligibility Test (Amendment) Rule, 2024. This revised policy will apply to government job recruitments for Group C and D posts.
According to the official statement, the provision granting 5% weightage for socioeconomic criteria to bona fide residents of Haryana has been removed. This change aligns with the Punjab and Haryana High Court’s directives.
High Court and Supreme Court Judgments
In May, the Punjab and Haryana High Court had invalidated the state government’s policy of awarding 5% bonus marks in the CET for Group C and D posts based on candidates’ socioeconomic status. The Supreme Court later upheld this order in June while hearing an appeal filed by the Haryana Staff Selection Commission.
Scope of the Amended Policy
The amended policy will apply to direct recruitment for Group C positions, including roles in police services, prisons, and home guards, except for teaching posts, ex-Agniveer roles, and Group D posts where the minimum educational qualification is below matriculation.
Additionally, the revised policy increases the maximum number of candidates eligible to appear for skill and/or written examinations. Now, up to ten times the number of advertised posts can take part in these examinations, compared to the earlier limit of four times the advertised vacancies.
