The athletes of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector-35, Chandigarh, showcased outstanding performances at the Inter School Annual State Athletic Meet 2024-25, held from January 14-18 at the Sports Complex in Sector 7-B, Chandigarh. The event was organized by the Education Department, Chandigarh, and the school athletes participated under the expert guidance of Sports Teacher Kuldeep Mehra.
The participants excelled in various track and field events, bringing glory to their school. Upon their return on Monday, Principal Nirdosh Kumari warmly congratulated the medal winners by presenting them with medals during a special felicitation ceremony. Both the principal and staff extended their best wishes to the athletes and applauded the efforts of Sports Teacher Kuldeep Mehra.
Kuldeep Mehra highlighted the exceptional achievements of Sohani and Radhika in the under-19 girls’ category. The duo won gold and silver medals, respectively, in the hammer throw event. Additionally, they excelled in the javelin throw, with Sohani claiming another gold and Radhika securing a silver. Sohani emerged as a double gold medalist, while Radhika brought home two silver medals.
In the same competition, Himanshi Thakur earned a silver medal in the 3,000-meter race, and Mokshita secured a bronze medal in the 1,500-meter race.
The boys’ under-17 team also achieved remarkable success. The relay team, comprising Suraj Singh, Sumit Rajput, Abhay Singh, and Bhagwan Singh, won silver in the 4×100 meters relay. Suraj Singh further impressed with individual achievements, securing silver in the javelin throw and contributing to another silver medal in the same event alongside teammate Mohit, who won bronze. Suraj Singh finished the meet with two silver medals. Additionally, Abhay Singh clinched a bronze medal in the 200-meter race.
The stellar performance of these young athletes stands as a testament to their dedication and the relentless efforts of their mentor and coach.
