New Delhi, Dec 26:
Manmohan Singh, the 13th Prime Minister of India, has passed away at the age of 92. He was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi after his health worsened.
Singh served as Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, overseeing significant economic reforms and development initiatives, such as the National Rural Health Mission, the Rural Employment Guarantee scheme, and the Right to Information Act.
The nation is in mourning, remembering a visionary leader whose contributions to India’s growth will leave a lasting legacy.
Singh, who was also a prominent figure in the economic transformation of India during his tenure as Finance Minister in the early 1990s under Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao, played a key role in the country’s economic liberalization.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Robert Vadra, husband of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi, expressed his sorrow, saying, “I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Ji. My deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. Thank you for your service to our nation. You will always be remembered for the economic revolution and progressive changes you brought to the country.”
Singh remained a member of the Rajya Sabha until earlier this year. The AIIMS Delhi has yet to confirm the former PM’s passing at the time of this report.
