Former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala passed away on Friday at the age of 89. He breathed his last at around 12 PM at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram. Chautala had been battling respiratory issues for a long time and had been receiving treatment at this hospital for the past 3-4 years. On Friday morning, his health suddenly deteriorated, and he was brought to the hospital’s emergency unit at 11:35 AM, where doctors confirmed his death.
Haryana’s current Chief Minister, Nayab Singh Saini, has expressed his heartfelt condolences.

Political Journey Starting from Chautala Village in Sirsa
Om Prakash Chautala was born on January 1, 1935, in the village of Chautala, Sirsa district, Haryana. He was the eldest son of former Deputy Prime Minister Chaudhary Devi Lal. Throughout his political career, Chautala served as the Chief Minister of Haryana five times.
- First Term: He first became the Chief Minister on December 2, 1989, and served until May 22, 1990.
- Second Term: On July 12, 1990, he took office for the second time after the then Chief Minister Banarsi Das Gupta was removed. However, he was forced to resign just five days later.
- Third Term: On April 22, 1991, Chautala assumed the Chief Minister’s position for the third time, but his tenure lasted only two weeks, as the central government imposed President’s Rule in the state.

The Chautala family holds significant influence in Haryana’s political landscape. Om Prakash Chautala is survived by his two sons, Ajay Singh and Abhay Singh Chautala, and a daughter, Sunita.
