Mohali, March 1:

In a joint operation, the Mohali Police and Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) arrested notorious gangster Malkiat Singh, alias Maxy, after a dramatic shootout near Ghaggar Bridge on the Zirakpur-Ambala Highway.

When confronted, Maxy attempted to escape and opened fire on the police team. In retaliation, the police fired back, injuring him in the left leg. He was immediately taken to Civil Hospital, Mohali, for treatment.

Maxy is an active member of the Goldy Brar and Goldy Dhillon gang, known for running an extortion racket in Punjab. In January 2025, the gang allegedly demanded ₹50 lakh in extortion from a Mohali property dealer.

Police confirmed that he has multiple cases registered against him, including charges related to extortion, illegal firearms, and organized crime. A .32 bore pistol was recovered from the scene.

Another suspect, Sandeep, has also been arrested on a production warrant, and police are continuing their investigation to track down other associates. Punjab DGP confirmed the arrest on social media, commending the police team for their swift action.
