Chandigarh, Oct 14
Congress’ Haryana in-charge, Deepak Babaria, has offered to resign following the party’s unexpected defeat in the Haryana Assembly elections. Babaria, citing moral responsibility and health reasons, resigned to the party leadership after the results were announced last week. However, no decision has yet been made regarding his offer. This marks the second time Babaria has offered to resign, having previously done so after the Lok Sabha elections in his role as Delhi in-charge.
The Congress, which was optimistic about dislodging the BJP after a decade of its rule, managed to win 37 seats in the 90-member assembly, while the BJP secured 48 seats. The party has also raised concerns about discrepancies in some Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and has demanded a probe into the matter. A fact-finding team has been formed by the Congress leadership to assess the reasons for the defeat and investigate complaints related to the EVMs.
