Jaipur (Rajasthan), December 20:
A devastating fire erupted on the Jaipur-Ajmer national highway early Friday morning, claiming the lives of five people and leaving 37 others injured. The blaze was triggered by a collision involving a truck carrying chemicals and several other vehicles, according to police reports.
The inferno engulfed approximately 30 trucks and vehicles, completely destroying them. Jaipur Police Commissioner Biju George Joseph confirmed the casualties, stating, “Five lives have been lost, and 37 individuals are injured.”
Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma visited the injured at SMS Hospital, where they are receiving treatment. He instructed medical staff and officials to ensure proper care and support for the victims.
Bhankrota SHO Manish Gupta explained the challenges faced in containing the fire. “Reaching the burning vehicles was extremely difficult for fire brigade teams,” he said. Fortunately, the three petrol pumps located in the vicinity of the blaze remained unharmed.
Over 25 ambulances were deployed to transport the injured to hospitals, while the accident disrupted traffic movement along a 300-metre stretch of the highway, causing significant congestion.
Efforts are ongoing to clear the site and restore normal traffic flow.
