Chandigarh Police Verification Delayed: Over 1300 Applications Pending, Citizens Struggling

Sharing is caring!

Chandigarh, February 24:

Residents of Chandigarh are facing significant difficulties in getting police verification done for various purposes, including job applications and other official requirements. Many applicants are forced to visit police stations, beat boxes, and police headquarters multiple times, disrupting their daily routines.

Thousands of Applications Still Pending

Currently, over 1300 police verification requests are pending, including approximately 1200 online applications and 125 manual ones. The most concerning issue is the delay in verifying tenants and domestic workers, which is crucial for public safety. Despite past incidents involving gangsters and criminals in the city, the police have not been prioritizing timely verifications. While landlords are legally required to ensure tenant verification, many applications from December and January remain unresolved.

Negligence at Beat Boxes Causing Delays

According to sources, police verification is primarily handled by beat boxes and Samavesh Kendras. While Samavesh Kendras have been processing applications at a reasonable pace, inefficiencies at beat boxes have resulted in numerous pending verifications. The highest number of delayed applications are from Sarangpur and Sector-34 police stations.

Difference Between Online and Manual Verification

Online verification covers applications for passports, character certificates, tenant verification, and domestic worker verification. In contrast, manual verification requests come through the DC office and include marriage registration, arms licenses, and employee background checks. At present, 40 arms license verifications, 50 marriage-related verifications, and approximately 120 employee background checks are pending.

Job Applicants Facing Repercussions

Shanti Negi, a resident of Kishangarh, shared her struggle with the verification delay. She applied for a security guard position, which required a character certificate. Despite applying online two months ago, she has yet to receive any response from the authorities. As a result, she lost the job opportunity and had to seek employment elsewhere in the Industrial Area.

The growing backlog of police verifications highlights the need for a more efficient system to ensure timely processing and enhanced public safety in Chandigarh.
