In a corruption-related case, a team from the Chandigarh CBI conducted a raid at the ED office in Shimla. The ED’s Deputy Director, involved in a bribery case, has gone on the run along with his middleman. Investigation teams are currently searching for them. Meanwhile, the raid at the ED office, which began on Tuesday, continued even 36 hours later. The CBI has seized several important files and documents from the Deputy Director’s office. Sources suggest that a raid was also conducted at the officer’s residence.
The Deputy Director of the ED in Shimla was handling a case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). In this case, the Deputy Director allegedly demanded lakhs of rupees through a middleman to influence the investigation. The complainant from the accused side submitted a written complaint to the Chandigarh CBI, leading to a special team being formed under the direction of higher authorities to investigate the matter. The CBI also facilitated a meeting between the complainant and the middleman, where the exchange of money was recorded via phone and a recorder. However, the Deputy Director became aware of the operation and fled with the middleman. On Monday, the CBI in Chandigarh filed a case under corruption and other relevant charges.
Raid Initiated on Tuesday Morning
On Tuesday morning, the CBI team raided the ED office in Shimla’s Strawberry Hills area in Chhota Shimla. Following the raid, no one was allowed to leave or enter the office. As of Wednesday evening, the raid was still ongoing. A CBI official confirmed that a case has been registered but refused to provide further details on the matter. Official information regarding the specific bribery case or the allegations against the Deputy Director has not yet been released.
