Ayodhya (Uttar Pradesh), February 3:

The police have arrested three individuals in connection with the alleged rape and murder of a Dalit woman in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh. The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with prominent political figures condemning the crime.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi strongly criticized the brutal murder, accusing the Uttar Pradesh government of being insensitive to the plight of Dalits. He emphasized that such violent incidents against Dalits have been on the rise in the state, particularly under the current BJP-led administration. Gandhi expressed his concern over the administration’s failure to respond to the victim’s family’s cries for help, questioning how many more families would have to endure such suffering.

The Congress leader also demanded that authorities ensure the victim’s family is treated with dignity and not subjected to further harassment, which he claimed had been the case in similar incidents in the past. He urged the government to thoroughly investigate the crime, ensure the culprits receive the harshest punishment, and hold accountable the police officers involved.

Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party MP Awadhesh Prasad broke down during a press conference after the body of the Dalit woman, found in a village, was reported. He called the crime “extremely sad and inhuman” and expressed his anger toward the state government for its handling of the situation. Prasad stated that if justice was not served, he would resign from his position in the Lok Sabha.

Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi also expressed her outrage, criticizing the Uttar Pradesh government for failing to address the grievances of Dalits, tribals, and the poor. She condemned the brutality of the crime and lamented that the victim had been missing for three days without any action from the police. Gandhi also demanded strict punishment for the perpetrators and the officers responsible for failing to act.

In response to the incident, Priyanka Maurya, a member of the UP Women Commission, visited the victim’s family and assured them that justice would be delivered. Maurya emphasized that the state government, led by Yogi Adityanath, would ensure the family receives justice for the crime.
