Uttarakhand, February 28:
A massive avalanche struck the India-China (Tibet) border region near Mana Camp in Uttarakhand on Friday, burying 57 workers engaged in construction activities. Rescue teams have successfully pulled out 16 workers so far, while three injured individuals are being transported to a military hospital with the assistance of the Indian Army and ITBP. Efforts are ongoing to locate the remaining trapped workers.
Adverse weather conditions have disrupted communication services in the area. Chamoli District Magistrate Sandeep Tiwari confirmed reports of laborers being trapped due to the avalanche between Mana and Mana Pass. Authorities have sought assistance from the Indian Air Force, while the Army and ITBP are actively conducting rescue operations. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has also been deployed for relief efforts.
Heavy snowfall has blocked the Badrinath Highway beyond Hanuman Chatti, preventing NDRF teams from reaching Mana Camp. Rescue operations are continuing despite the challenging conditions.
