Jalandhar, February 6:

A heartbreaking incident occurred in Kotli Khakhia village near Dosanjh Kalan in Jalandhar Dehat, where a 7-year-old girl lost her life after her neck was cut by a kite string. The accident took place on Wednesday evening while the child was riding on a motorcycle with her grandfather on their way to a shop. Harleen, the deceased, was the only daughter in her family, leaving them devastated.

Dosanjh Kalan police post in-charge, Sukhwinder Pal, stated that the string recovered from the crime scene was Indian-made and not synthetic. According to the girl’s grandfather, Satnam Singh, his daughter-in-law, Jaswinder Rani, was hospitalized after undergoing gallbladder surgery. Due to this, he was taking his two granddaughters to his shop. Harleen was sitting in front of him on the motorcycle, while her other granddaughter sat behind.

As they had barely traveled half a kilometer from their village, a kite string suddenly entangled around Harleen’s neck. The string was so sharp that it caused a deep cut, leading to severe bleeding. She was immediately rushed to the hospital, but due to excessive blood loss, doctors referred her to another medical facility. Unfortunately, despite efforts to save her, she succumbed to her injuries before treatment could begin.

Her grandfather later brought her body home, leaving the family in shock and grief. The police have taken the string into custody and initiated an investigation. According to the police officer, the string was Indian-made and not the banned Chinese manjha. However, it was strong enough to cause fatal injuries. The authorities have taken possession of the body and are proceeding with further legal action.
