Tragic Accident Near Punjab-Himachal Border at Kiratpur Sahib

Sharing is caring!

Kiratpur, Nov 8
A tragic accident occurred near the Punjab-Himachal Pradesh border at Kiratpur Sahib on Friday. Around 6:30 a.m. on the Chandigarh-Manali National Highway, a face-to-face collision took place between an SUV 500 and a Swift Dzire car. The impact was so severe that both vehicles were wrecked. The horrific crash claimed the lives of a taxi driver and a woman, Deepika Sharma. Four others, including a young child traveling in the Swift Dzire (taxi), were injured.

The deceased taxi driver has been identified as Yuvraj Rana (30) from Hamirpur, who was transporting passengers from Himachal to Chandigarh. The injured include Ena Bharti, Reena Devi, a young child, and another individual. The SUV driver and passengers abandoned their vehicle and fled the scene.

Witnesses reported that there were two men and a woman in the Delhi-registered SUV, and they appeared to be intoxicated. The SUV driver was reportedly driving in the wrong direction and collided head-on with the Swift Dzire coming from Himachal Pradesh. The passengers in the Dzire were trapped inside, and locals struggled to rescue them. Shockingly, despite the severity of the accident, no ambulance arrived for an hour, and passing vehicles did not stop to assist the injured, leaving them to scream for help on the road.

According to police, Ena Bharti, who was studying in Chandigarh, had hired the taxi driver to drop her off. Along the way, other passengers—Deepika Sharma with her young child, Reena Devi, and another individual—had also boarded the taxi. Ena Bharti and Reena Devi have been referred to Sri Anandpur Sahib Hospital, while 32-year-old Deepika Sharma tragically lost her life.

Two Injured Transferred to AIIMS

The injured were initially taken to the Civil Hospital in Anandpur Sahib, while seriously injured Ena Bharti and Reena Devi were referred to AIIMS in Bilaspur. In the taxi, a young child was seated with his mother, Deepika Sharma, along with Ena Bharti and Reena Devi in the back seat.

Just Four Months Since Marriage

Upon learning of the accident, Yuvraj’s wife and sister rushed to Kiratpur Sahib, devastated by the news. His wife, who is four months pregnant, had been married to Yuvraj only four months ago. The SUV driver and passengers managed to escape, evading both the bystanders and police at the scene.
