Khanna (Punjab), January 30:
A tragic accident occurred near Bahomajra village in Khanna, Punjab, when the rope securing an overloaded sugarcane trolley snapped, leading to the death of two individuals. The deceased have been identified as Gurdip Singh and Didar Singh, both residents of Majri village.
How Did the Accident Happen?
Gurdip Singh and his neighbor Didar Singh were transporting a trolley full of sugarcane to Amloh. As they approached Bahomajra village, the rope securing the sugarcane suddenly broke. This caused the tractor to lose balance and veer onto the railing. Due to the downward slope, the sugarcane fell on both men, trapping them underneath.
Local residents immediately informed the police and worked hard to rescue the trapped individuals. Unfortunately, Gurdip Singh had already died at the scene. Didar Singh was rushed to Khanna Civil Hospital for treatment but succumbed to his injuries on the way.
Family Members Protest, Tension at the Scene
When the hospital staff suggested sending the bodies for a post-mortem examination, Gurdip Singh’s relatives strongly opposed it. They insisted on taking the bodies in their own vehicle, leading to a tense situation. The police were called in to manage the situation and calm the agitated family members.
Sub-Inspector Sukhdev Singh stated that with the help of bystanders, the trapped men were pulled out from under the sugarcane, but unfortunately, they could not be saved. The police have launched an investigation into the incident.
