Amritsar (Punjab), January 14:
Festivities for Makar Sankranti turned tragic in Punjab’s Ajnala when a young man lost his life due to injuries caused by Chinese manjha (kite string). The incident occurred on Tuesday on the Amritsar-Ajnala main road near a petrol station in Bhala village, close to Ajnala.
Pawan Singh, an 18-year-old resident of Bhala, was riding his motorcycle towards the city when a Chinese kite string entangled around his neck, inflicting a fatal injury. The string caused severe bleeding, and Pawan was rushed to the Civil Hospital in Ajnala. However, doctors at the hospital declared him dead upon arrival, stating that he had succumbed to his injuries before reaching the facility.
Eyewitnesses reported a delay in arranging transportation for Pawan. In the absence of an available vehicle, he was transported to the hospital on a rickshaw. Family members have alleged that the hospital staff failed to provide timely medical attention, claiming that an ECG was conducted only after his death.
Local police have registered a case against unidentified individuals and assured the public that strict action will be taken against those responsible. This tragic incident highlights the dangers associated with the use of banned Chinese manjha during kite-flying festivities.
