To tackle the ongoing strike by revenue officials, the Punjab government has made a crucial decision. In the absence of tehsildars, kanungos (revenue officers) will now be responsible for land registrations.
Kanungos Assigned Land Registration Duties in Bathinda
Bathinda Deputy Commissioner Shaukat Ahmed has issued orders authorizing kanungos to temporarily handle land registrations. He emphasized that the government’s priority is to ensure that citizens do not face any inconvenience.
CM Bhagwant Mann’s Warning: Corruption Won’t Be Tolerated
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann took a firm stance, stating that tehsildars on mass leave should be prepared for the public to decide their future postings. He reiterated that the government is committed to eradicating corruption and will not tolerate any misconduct.
Trial-Based Assignment of New Responsibilities
As a trial, the government has temporarily assigned a kanungo as a sub-registrar in Bathinda tehsil for a day to handle registrations. Bathinda DC Shaukat Ahmed Pareh stated that if the strike continues, this arrangement could be extended.
Revenue Officials’ Strike Continues, Government Calls for Talks
The Punjab Revenue Officers Association has decided to suspend all registration work in tehsils until Friday. Meanwhile, the government has invited striking officials for discussions to find a resolution at the earliest.
