Chandigarh, December 20:
After receiving a bomb threat against the Punjab Police Headquarters (located in Mohali and Sector-9, Chandigarh), security measures have been tightened. Upon receiving the threat, Chandigarh Police and other security agencies have become alert. On Thursday morning, the police visited the headquarters and began a thorough investigation.
Security around the headquarters has been increased, with several police vehicles deployed. Every individual entering or exiting is being closely monitored, and access for outsiders has been restricted.
Special Alert in Mohali: Strict Checkpoints at Border Areas
In light of recent events, special security measures are being implemented in Mohali district. Following the directives of the Punjab DGP, robust barricades have been set up at all border areas of the district.
Rising Number of Terrorist Incidents:
In the past 25 days, there have been six major terrorist attacks targeting police stations in Punjab. On Wednesday, a grenade attack occurred at the Bakhshiwala police post, marking the seventh such incident this month. In response to these events, Mohali Police has decided to conduct special late-night checking operations.
Two-Shift Checking Operations:
Police checkpoints will be set up in two shifts:
- First shift: From 10 PM to 12 AM
- Second shift: From 12 AM to 3 AM
Night Policing Plan and Technological Monitoring
Mohali SSP Deepak Parikh has initiated a “New Night Policing Plan,” which will include:
- Checking of suspicious vehicles.
- Crackdown on drug suppliers and weapon smugglers.
- All police officers have been instructed to document checkpoint operations through videography.
Use of Body Cameras:
To ensure transparency during the checking process, police personnel have been provided with body cameras.
Strict Action on Vehicles:
- Daily Challans: Approximately 500 vehicles are being fined daily in Mohali.
- Vehicle Seizures: Around 24 vehicles are seized daily.
- Special scrutiny is being carried out on external vehicles.
On Wednesday night, special checkpoints were set up at the Jagatpura border and Airport Road. All vehicles passing through the checkpoints were recorded with cameras. SSP Deepak Parikh personally oversaw the investigation on-site.
