Punjab, January 9:
Amritpal Singh, a jailed Khalistani separatist and Member of Parliament (MP) for Khadoor Sahib, has been charged under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) by the Punjab Police in connection with the murder of YouTuber Gurpreet Singh. The incident occurred on October 9, 2024, in Harino village.
Singh, a leader of the pro-Khalistan group Waris Punjab De, is accused of playing a key role in the conspiracy behind the high-profile murder. Gurpreet Singh, a close associate of late actor Deep Sidhu and a founding member of Waris Punjab De, was fatally shot while returning home from a gurudwara on his two-wheeler.
The Punjab Police’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) has linked Amritpal Singh and gangster Arsh Dalla, who is believed to be overseas, to the case. According to officials, significant evidence gathered during the investigation suggests Amritpal’s involvement in planning the murder.
Faridkot Senior Superintendent of Police Pragya Jain confirmed the arrests of several suspects in the case, including two shooters and three individuals involved in reconnaissance. Additionally, one accomplice who facilitated the crime is in judicial custody. However, Arsh Dalla remains at large.
“This case goes back to October last year. Except for Arsh Dalla, all other accused, including the shooters, have been arrested. The UAPA has now been invoked in this case,” Jain said.
Amritpal Singh, currently held in Nabha Jail under the National Security Act (NSA), took the oath as a Lok Sabha MP in July 2025. His supporters have announced plans for a significant rally at the Maghi Mela in Sri Muktsar Sahib on January 14, where they are expected to launch a new political party.
The charges against Singh add to his mounting legal troubles, as a critical court hearing concerning the NSA charges against him is scheduled for January 15.
The investigation highlights Punjab Police’s intensified efforts to crack down on organized crime and separatist activities in the region.
