Panchkula (Haryana), January 6:

Authorities are searching for a resident of Raipur Rani accused of fatally assaulting his six-year-old stepdaughter during a domestic dispute.

According to Renu, the victim’s mother, she and her two daughters from her first marriage had been living in Taprian village with her second husband, Anil Kumar, for the past year. She alleged that Anil, who struggled with alcohol addiction, often exhibited abusive behavior.

On the evening of January 3, Renu claimed that a drunken Anil initiated an argument with her and her daughters. The situation escalated, leading to physical and verbal abuse. Despite the turmoil, Renu managed to feed her daughters, Aarti (9) and Sapna (6), and put them to bed.

Later that night, around 10 p.m., Renu went to check on Sapna to give her milk but found her unresponsive. When she confronted Anil about the child’s condition, he fled the house. Fearing further violence, Renu locked the doors and sought help the following morning.

She informed her brother-in-law, Shiv Kailash, who tried to revive Sapna but realized she was already deceased. Police were notified immediately.

A team from Raipur Rani police station, led by officer Man Singh, conducted an initial investigation at the scene, finding the child’s body lying on the floor. Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) experts also examined the site. The body was later sent for a postmortem at Panchkula Civil Hospital, where injury marks were observed on the child’s face near her cheek and ear.

Based on Renu’s statement, police registered a case of murder against Anil Kumar under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). If convicted, the charge could result in the death penalty or life imprisonment.

Renu has accused her husband of causing her daughter’s death through repeated acts of violence. She also alleged that he had been abusive toward her and her children, particularly under the influence of alcohol.
