Rawalpindi, January 17:
Former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, and his wife, Bushra Bibi, have been convicted in the high-profile Al-Qadir Trust corruption case. A special anti-corruption court handed Khan a 14-year prison sentence, while Bushra Bibi received a seven-year sentence.
The verdict was delivered by Judge Nasir Javed Rana at a courtroom set up within the prison premises near Islamabad, where Khan has been detained since August 2023. The case revolves around alleged mismanagement of £190 million intended for public welfare through the Al-Qadir Trust, a foundation co-founded by the couple.
Bushra Bibi, who had been previously released on bail after an earlier conviction, appeared in court on Friday to hear the ruling.
Khan, who faces nearly 200 charges that he claims are politically motivated, has denied any wrongdoing. He argues that the legal actions against him are designed to prevent his political comeback.
This landmark ruling adds another chapter to Pakistan’s turbulent political history, drawing sharp reactions from both supporters and critics of the former prime minister.
