New Delhi, February 17:
In response to a tragic stampede at New Delhi Railway Station on Saturday night, which claimed 18 lives, including 11 women and five children, the Indian Railways has decided to suspend the sale of platform tickets for one week. The ban will be in effect daily from 4 pm to 11 pm, according to an official from the Railway Ministry.
The move aims to control overcrowding at the station, especially as the Mahakumbh festival draws to a close, increasing the number of passengers arriving and departing on special trains. The stampede highlighted the severe overcrowding issues, prompting this decision to ensure passenger safety and better crowd management.
In a similar incident earlier this week, passengers at a Bihar railway station were seen breaking the glass windows of a train after they were unable to board it, raising further concerns about passenger conduct and crowd control at railway stations across the region.
