New Delhi, January 16:
Justice K Vinod Chandran took his oath as a Supreme Court Judge today. The oath was administered by Chief Justice of India, Sanjiv Khanna.
The central government officially appointed Justice Vinod Chandran as a Supreme Court Judge on January 14, following the Supreme Court Collegium’s recommendation the previous week. Justice Chandran, who was the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court, is now elevated to the highest court in the country.
Justice Chandran’s judicial career began in November 2011 when he was appointed as a judge of the Kerala High Court. He was appointed as the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court on March 29, 2023.
The Collegium, in its recommendation, noted that the Supreme Court Bench had no representation from the Kerala High Court, especially after the retirement of Justice CT Ravikumar earlier this month. The Collegium emphasized Justice Chandran’s extensive experience across various legal domains during his judicial career.
Justice Chandran will serve in the Supreme Court until April 25, 2028.
