Jalandhar, April 22
An e-rickshaw carrying children to school collided with a pillar in Jalandhar on Monday morning. Three people including two students suffered serious injuries. The incident took place at Kishanpura Chowk. Critically ill children are undergoing treatment in a private hospital located near Pathankot Chowk. Passerby Surinder told that he was going to the shop in the morning. During this time he saw that a speeding e-rickshaw driver collided with an electric pole. Passersby immediately caught hold of the driver and gave water to the frightened children. The e-rickshaw driver said that an auto had come from the front, to save it he turned the e-rickshaw. Due to this the e-rickshaw collided with the pillar. Passersby said that the driver was drunk. Police reached the spot after getting information about the accident and took the e-rickshaw driver into custody.
According to the information, a child was sent home immediately after treatment. Police station 8 in-charge Gurmeet Singh said that the information was received in the police control room in the morning. He immediately reached the spot with his team. The children were taken to Kapoor Hospital with the help of passersby. The auto driver is in our custody. The e-rickshaw driver was not drunk at the time of the incident. Still the police will get his medical done. At present no child or family member has recorded their statement.
