Faridkot, February 5:
A shocking incident of misconduct has surfaced involving a traveling ticket examiner (TTE) and a 19-year-old IIT Delhi student aboard the Punjab Mail train. The student, who had a confirmed third AC ticket, was allegedly harassed in the middle of the night, leaving her and her family distressed.
Harassment Despite Confirmed Ticket
The student, a resident of Faridkot, was traveling alone on February 5 from Faridkot to Delhi in the Punjab Mail. She was allotted a confirmed berth in coach B-1, seat number 27, under PNR 2329499027. Around 1:30 AM, while she was asleep, a TTE entered the coach, pulled away her blanket and bedsheet, and began arguing with her.
Verbal Abuse and Forced Eviction Attempt
When the student protested and showed her confirmed ticket, the TTE allegedly lost his temper and verbally abused her. He reportedly attempted to force her to vacate her seat, creating a distressing situation for the young traveler.
Family Demands Action from Railway Authorities
The student’s father, deeply disturbed by the incident, reported the matter to railway officials but claims no action has been taken. He has now appealed to the Railway Minister for justice, emphasizing the need for a safer travel environment for women.
Pending Complaints in Ferozepur Division
Reports suggest that similar complaints against railway staff remain unresolved in the Ferozepur division. Passengers have raised concerns over safety, especially for women traveling alone at night, calling for stricter action against misconduct on trains.
