Agra, Nov 4
A MiG-29 fighter jet belonging to the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed in a field near Agra, Uttar Pradesh, on Monday, according to sources. Fortunately, the pilot managed to eject safely, and no casualties were reported in the incident.
Visuals circulating on social media captured the scene, showing the fighter jet engulfed in flames following the crash.
The IAF announced that a Court of Inquiry will be ordered to investigate the cause of the crash. This incident follows a similar crash on September 2, when another MiG-29 fighter jet went down in Rajasthan’s Barmer due to a “critical” technical snag. In that instance as well, the pilot ejected safely, with no loss of life.
The MiG-29 fleet has experienced several incidents in recent years, raising concerns about the technical reliability of the aircraft. Further details on the Agra crash and findings from the Court of Inquiry are expected to be released by the IAF in due course.
