HRTC Driver Commits Suicide, Alleges Harassment by RM, Investigation Underway

Dharmpur (Mandi, Himachal Pradesh), January 14:

A tragic incident has surfaced from the HRTC depot in Dharmpur, Himachal Pradesh, where a driver reportedly took his own life. The deceased, identified as Sanjay Kumar, was a resident of Kullu district. A video purportedly recorded by him before his death has gone viral on social media. However, the authenticity of this video remains unverified.

Allegations Against RM

In the viral video, Sanjay Kumar accused Dharmpur depot’s Regional Manager (RM), Vinod Kumar, of harassment. He stated, “The RM was constantly harassing me and threatening to suspend me and send me home.”
Following Sanjay’s death, his family lodged a complaint with senior HRTC officials. In response, the Managing Director of Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC), Rohan Chand Thakur, directed Divisional Manager Vinod Thakur to conduct a detailed inquiry into the matter.

Driver Was on Leave

Vinod Thakur, the Divisional Manager of Mandi HRTC, clarified that Sanjay Kumar had taken leave citing personal issues. He said, “The matter has now been brought to the notice of higher authorities, and a departmental investigation is underway. Further action will be based on the findings of the inquiry.”

RM Denies Allegations

Regional Manager Vinod Kumar, who has been accused of harassment, denied the allegations. He stated, “I have not harassed Sanjay Kumar in any way. The accusations against me are false and baseless.”

Death Occurred on January 12

According to Sanjay Kumar’s family, he passed away on January 12 while undergoing treatment at the hospital. The family reported the matter to senior HRTC officials on January 13, demanding a fair investigation and strict action against those responsible.

This incident has raised concerns about the working conditions and mental health support for HRTC employees. The family and authorities await the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
