Himachal Pradesh to Introduce FASTag-Based Entry Tax at All 55 Toll Barriers

Sharing is caring!

Himachal Pradesh, February 24:

The Himachal Pradesh government is set to roll out a FASTag-based entry tax collection system across all 55 toll barriers in a phased approach. This initiative aims to streamline the payment process, minimize delays, and enhance the convenience of commuters entering the state.

Phased Implementation Begins with Six Locations

In the initial phase, the FASTag-enabled system will be introduced at six key locations: Garamaura in Bilaspur, Parwanoo (Main) and Tipra Bypass in Solan district, Govindghat in Sirmaur district, Kandwal in Kangra, Mehatpur in Una district, and Baddi in Solan district.

Increased Revenue Expectations and Responsibilities of Toll Lessees

A government spokesperson stated that the entry tax barriers for the financial year 2025-26 will be allocated through an auction-cum-tender process, with an anticipated revenue increase of 7.5% compared to 2024-25.

The toll lessees awarded the contracts for selected barriers must implement the FASTag-based system within 45 days. Failure to do so will result in the cancellation of their lease. The lessees will be responsible for covering all associated costs, including expenses related to the Issuer Bank, NPCI, IHMCL, and the acquiring bank. Senior officials have been instructed to oversee the timely execution of the project in their designated areas.

Regulations for Toll Operators

The spokesperson further clarified that toll operators must provide a written commitment to implementing the FASTag-based system at their own cost. Additionally, they are required to issue receipts for commuters making round trips within 24 hours. Charging any amount beyond the officially approved toll rates is strictly prohibited.

With this transition to digital tax collection, Himachal Pradesh aims to improve efficiency at toll barriers, reduce congestion, and enhance the overall travel experience for motorists.
