Himachal Pradesh, February 8:
A tragic road accident occurred as devotees from Chhadiar, Himachal Pradesh, were returning from the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj after taking a holy dip. The accident claimed the lives of two individuals, while 11 others sustained injuries. The deceased have been identified as 60-year-old Nirmala Devi (Guddi Devi), wife of Pritam Rana, and 50-year-old Surendra Rana, son of Kapoor Chand. Surendra Rana was also a journalist from Chhadiar.
The injured include Ashok Sharma, Sudesh Kumari, Jeevani Devi, Raksha Devi, Tamba Devi, Anjana Kumari, Sheela Rani, Anju (wife of Surendra Rana), Chandi, Sunil Kumari, and Kusumlata (wife of Anil). Reports suggest that around 20 devotees from Chhadiar had left for the Mahakumbh in two vehicles on Wednesday.
The accident took place around 6 AM on Saturday near Rath in Hamirpur district on the Bundelkhand Expressway, approximately 150 kilometers from Prayagraj. The ill-fated vehicle had Surendra Rana seated in the front, while Nirmala Devi was sitting in the back. The second vehicle, carrying six other devotees, remained unaffected.
As soon as the news of the accident reached Chhadiar’s Doli village, a wave of grief swept through the community. The sudden loss has left the families and local residents in deep sorrow.
